The Father, Son and Holy Ghost
I was always told that the Father Son & Holy Spirit were one and the same. I decided to search the scriptures for myself concerning this matter.
John 5 v 18-27 “…The Son can do nothing of himself but what he seeth the Father do…”
John 5 v 22 “The Father judgeth no man but hath committed all judgement to the Son.”
God doesn’t judge anyone, but Jesus does, so the Son is going to do something that God is not going to do. Already this gives the impression that there is a difference between the two.
John 5 v 23 “…The Father sent the Son…”
John 5 v 26 “… The Father hath given life to the Son…”
John 5 v 27 “… The Father hath given the Son authority to execute judgement…”
J
ohn 5 v 30 “Jesus said I can of mine own self do nothing, as I hear I judge.”Jesus obviously received instruction from the Father which sent him.
John 5 v 36 “For the works which the Father hath given me to finish the same works that I do bear witness of me that the Father hath sent me.
John 5 v 37 “And the Father himself, which hath sent me…”
God the Father hath given instruction and hath sent Jesus giving the impression that everything originates from the Father.
John 10 v 29 “My Father which gave them me is greater than all and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.”
John 10 v 30 “I and the Father are one.
John 14 v 28 “If ye love me ye would rejoice because I said I go unto the Father, for my Father is greater than I.”
These two verses together taken at face value look like a contradiction, it is only when this subject is looked at in its entirety that a true picture emerges.
John 10 v 38 “That ye may know and believe that the Father is in me and I in him.
John 12 v 49 “Jesus said “For I have not spoken of myself but the Father who sent me, he gave me a commandment what I should say and what I should speak”
John 12 v 50 “And I know his commandment is life everlasting, whatsoever I speak therefore even as the Father said unto me so I speak.”
John 14 v 9 “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father..”
John 14 v 10 “…Believest thou not that I am in the Father and the Father in me…”
John 14 v 20 “At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father and ye in me and I in you.”
John 17 v20 “Neither pray I for these alone but for them also which shall believe on me through their word that they all may be one as thou Father art in me and I in thee, that they also may be one in us.”
(the word us refers to more than one person).
John 17 v 22 “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them that they may be one, even as we are one.”
(notice the word we is used)
Galatians 3 v 28 “…For ye are all one in Christ Jesus…”
1st Corinthians 15 v 27 “For He hath put all things under his feet, but when he saith all things are put under him it is manifest that he is excepted which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.”
1st Corinthians 11 v 3 “But I would have ye know, the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.”
Acts 7 v 55 & 56 “But he (Stephen) being full of the Holy Ghost looked up steadfastly into heaven and saw the glory of God & Jesus standing on the right hand of God – (two persons).”
Mark 16 v 19 “So then after the Lord had spoken unto them he was received up into Heaven and sat on the right hand of God.”
Other verses which witness to this verse are as follows -
Luke 20 v 42 Luke 22 v 69 Acts 2 v 33 & 34 Acts 7 v 55 & 56
Romans 8 v 34 Eph 1 v 20 Coll 3 v 1 Heb 1 v 3
Heb 8 v 1 Heb 10 v 12 Heb 12 v 2 1st Peter 3 v 22
Mark 13 v 32 “But of that day and of that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.”
Here again the Father knows something that the Son doesn’t.
Matthew 3 v 16 “And Jesus when he was baptized went up straightway out of the water, and lo, the heavens were opened unto him and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon him”
Matthew 3 v 17 “
And lo a voice from heaven saying, This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.”Again three different names are involved, e.g. Jesus in the water, the Holy Spirit descending and lighting upon him, and the voice from heaven.
John 16 v 13 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear; that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
The Holy Spirit is not speaking of himself, obviously getting instruction what to say.
The Way To God Through Jesus
1st Timothy 2 v 5 “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, (us, Jesus and God).”
John14 v 6 “Jesus said, I am the Way the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me.”
Before we can come to the Father we must first be identified with Jesus.
Hebrews 8 v 1 “We have such an high priest who is set on the right hand of the Throne of the Majesty in the heavens.”
Romans 1 v 7 “To all that be in Rome beloved of God called to be saints, grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (as well).”
This statement is repeated in almost all the books of the New Testament and is more proof if it were needed, that God the Father and Jesus Christ, although in perfect oneness are two different identities.
Most pastors and Christians when asked about the makeup of the Godhead will go to
John 1 v 1 “In the beginning was the word and the word was with God (and the word was God),”
John 1 v 14 “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
The key to this study is John 17 v 21 & 22, That they (all the believers) may be one even as we are one. It should be quite obvious that the word one speaking about all the believers is not referring to one person and could be applied the same way about the Godhead. Most preachers and Christians when questioned about the Godhead will throw their hands in the air and say it is all a great mystery. It should be quite clear to anyone from this study that Jesus is not the Father and Jesus is not the Holy Spirit, although they all agree as one.
John 14 v 16 “Jesus said, I will pray the Father and he shall give you another comforter that he may abide with you forever.”
John 16 v 17 “Nevertheless I tell you the truth it is expedient for you that I go away, for if I go not away the comforter will not come unto you, but if I depart I will send him unto you.”
Jesus is going to depart and he is going to send another comforter ( the Holy Spirit), further proof that Jesus is not the Holy Spirit. This concludes this short study which is taken from the King James translation of the Bible.
